Description

A terrace of four houses stands on Cottage Road in Far Headingley, built around 1860 and altered in the 20th century. The construction utilizes coursed squared gritstone, topped with a low-pitched slate roof and stone stacks positioned between the properties along both the front and rear ridges. Wooden gutter brackets are present. The front elevation features four first-floor windows, each with a four-pane glazing bar sash. Each house has a doorway to the left with an overlight and plain stone lintel; windows to the right also have four-pane glazing bar sashes with plain sills and lintels. The right return is blank. The rear elevation exhibits 20th-century doors without overlights, alongside four-pane glazing bar sashes, some of which are shorter than those on the front. The interior remains uninspected. The terrace exemplifies the significant development in the area arising from the sale of small land parcels on Headingley Moor in 1831, a development not documented on the 1850 Ordnance Survey map.
