Description
Three large gate piers and a linking wall form the former entrance to Beckett Park, now serving as the boundary wall to No. 151 on Otley Road in Far Headingley. These structures date from the mid-19th century and are constructed of ashlar stone. The overall length is approximately 20 meters, with the height of the piers around 2.5 meters.
At the southern end, there is a square pier made of rusticated ashlar, featuring a cornice and a capstone, although the finial is missing. At the northern end and in the center, there are two octagonal piers that are tapered, with stepped moulding, a deep cornice, and ball finials. The linking walls are low, consisting of one course with moulded copings, but the railings are missing.
The southern pier is similar in style to the gate piers at the western end of St Chad's Drive, also in Beckett Park. This structure is included for its group value.
