Description

This is a two-story cottage, built around 1835 and later restored and converted into a single house in the late 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone rubble with a slate roof. The building has two first-floor windows, originally intended as a mirror pair with the adjacent property, number 3. The original entrance to number 3 is now blocked. The entrance to number 5, which is on the right-hand side, has a plain, roughly-dressed stone surround. The windows are paired casements with plain sills and lintels. A central, square ridge stack is present, although its height has been reduced, and the right-hand gable has coping. The right return side features a narrow window on both the ground and first floors, each with a large stone lintel. The interior of the building has not been inspected. These small cottages were built on Headingley Moor following the auction of plots to help pay for the enclosure of the land in 1831. The building is included on the list for its group value.
