Description
This is a pair of stone slabs located approximately 20 meters east of the corner of the north transept of the Church of St Mary. The slabs date from around 1785 and 1795 and are made of ashlar. They are raised on weathered panelled sides. The left tomb is inscribed: "In Memory of Martha Balmforth, who departed this life April the 13th 1795, aged 39." The right tomb is inscribed: "In Memory of the Revd. Benjamin Hopperton, Schoolmaster of Morley, who died August 30th 1785, in the 68 year of his age." Each slab features a semicircular-carved arch with punched spandrels that contain paterae. These slabs are included for their group value.
