Description

This pair of chest tombs, dating from around 1827 and 1854, is located approximately 25 meters northwest of the west door of the Church of St. Mary. They are set within a raised stone surround and are constructed of ashlar. Each tomb is rectangular with corner balusters, featuring three paterae set within circles on the sides and paterae in ovals on the end panels. The tombs have gauge-carved friezes and the slabs are edged with moulding. The left tomb commemorates "Mary Dixon Asquith, Eldest Daughter of Joshua and Charlotte Asquith, died March 31st 1854." The right tomb is dedicated to "Joshua Asquith of Morley," who died on October 22nd, 1827, as well as other family members. These tombs are included for their group value.
