Description

Old Hall Farmhouse is a large house, now divided into two dwellings, dating from 1707 with alterations made in 1839. It is constructed from thin coursed hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building stands two storeys high and includes quoins and a plinth. It has a three-room plan that is double-depth, with a direct entry into the third cell.

On the first floor, there are nine windows. The first and second cells have inserted doors that are initialled and dated 'DP1839', along with a matching original doorway that features a square surround decorated with roll moulding around the lintel, framing a panel that reads "IR 1707". Each cell has a five-light double-chamfered mullioned and transomed window with a hoodmould on the ground floor, two cross-windows on the first floor, and a blind oval window with a hoodmould on each floor. The gables are coped with end stacks, and there are two additional ridge stacks. The rear of the building has more mullioned windows and is highlighted by two doorways with shaped lintels that exhibit 17th-century characteristics and may be re-used.

The interior has been largely remodelled around 1839. The third cell features a fireplace with a wide shallow arch and cyma moulding. The second cell has a similar fireplace, but with spiral stops on the jamb moulding; the chamber above contains a smaller fireplace with bolection moulding.
