Description
This chapel, located approximately 50 metres west of Bowcliffe Hall, is possibly from the 15th century and associated with Nostell Priory, although it is more likely from the 19th century and incorporates some materials from the cell of Nostell Priory. The chapel is constructed of coursed squared magnesian limestone and features a stone slate roof. It is a very small rectangular single cell, measuring about 5 by 3 metres.
On the south side, there is a doorway with a hollow-chamfered surround and a 4-centred arched head, featuring a restored hoodmould and double doors with traceried panels. To the right of the doorway is a Perpendicular window with three cusped lights, hollow-chamfered mullions, and a hoodmould. The east gable has a similar five-light window with a restored hoodmould, while the west gable features a square-headed window with four cusped lights, hollow-chamfered mullions, and a restored hoodmould.
Inside, the chapel has a coffered wooden ceiling with moulded beams and joists, which are likely from the 19th century.
