Description
The Armley Park plaque, located approximately 40 metres east of the fountain, is a late 19th-century garden ornament. It features a glazed terracotta plaque set in an artificial stone mound. The plaque is about 1 meter high and depicts a Classical female winged figure in high relief, with one foot balanced on a crowned winged mask. The figure's hands are raised, supporting a vase adorned with a grotesque mask and flowers. The tile border surrounding the plaque includes birds and fruit in shallow relief, with shades of blue, brown, and green. The plaque appears to have been fired in one piece and is one of a pair. Currently, it is incorporated into a hedge, and the mound is overgrown with ivy. This ornament is likely a product of the Burmantofts factory and was placed here when the park was established around 1897.
