Description
This is a mid-16th century aisled barn located approximately 5 meters southeast of Rodley Fold Farmhouse, with encasement from the mid to late 17th century. The barn features a timber frame encased in large coursed rubble, which is partly rendered, and has an asbestos roof. It consists of four bays, with a tall cart-entry cut back in the fourth bay that has half-hung doors. There is a mistal doorway to the left in the first bay, and the rear has an opposing cart-entry. The left-hand return includes a pitching hole at the apex.
Inside, the barn showcases fine timber work, with posts resting on padstones, arched braces connecting to tie beams and arcade plates, and posts that have mortices for ties to former wall plates. The king posts and principals were likely renewed in the mid-18th century, with one fish-bone king post present. Most of the rafters and purlins are original.
