Description

A house and barn, dating to 1758 with alterations in the early 19th century. Originally two dwellings with an adjoining barn, the building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof with gable copings to the east, featuring moulded kneelers. The east elevation has two central doorways, one of which is blocked, both with deep lintels and prominent tie-stones. Flanking the doorways are two 4-light chamfered stone mullioned windows, where the original mullions have been removed and replaced with square cut ones. A decorative stone plaque above the doorway bears the inscription “H M E 17.58”. The first-floor windows are likely from the early 19th century and consist of a 6-light window and a 4-light window, the latter with one light blocked. The barn to the left has a large doorway with a segmental arch and quoins, featuring a small light above with a round false arch. A lean-to extension with a catslide roof extends to the left of the barn. At the rear, there is a 3-light and a 2-light stone mullioned window, the latter with a removed mullion. Four single-light windows, likely dating from the mid-19th century, are positioned on the first floor at the rear.
