Description
Newlands is a farmhouse and barn built in 1746, constructed from deeply coursed millstone grit, with the barn rendered. It features a stone slate roof and a gabled extension at the rear. The building is two storeys high and has a south-east elevation that includes a doorway on the right with a deep lintel. Above the doorway is a datestone that reads: M I H 1746. To the left of the doorway, there is one 4-light and one 3-light double chamfered stone mullioned window. On the first floor, there are one 3-light, one 2-light (with the mullion removed), and one 4-light double chamfered stone mullioned window. The later gabled extension at the rear and a right gable extension obscure two blocked windows that have round false arches. The barn has an entrance with a large doorway (possibly added later) and a small vent. Inside the barn, there are two single trusses with purlins and struts, and the principal rafters are crossed at the apex, half lapped, and pegged, with a cradle ridge piece.
