Description

John Nelson's Study is a small, single-cell building located in the burial ground of the Methodist Chapel, dated 1751 and built by John Nelson. Constructed of brick, it features a stone slate roof with a corner chimney. The exterior includes a single doorway and two small side windows. Inside, there is a corner fireplace with a mantle and a tablet above it inscribed: "JOHN NELSON'S STUDY AD 1751." Two small pews remain within the building. This structure is listed primarily for its historical significance as the workplace of John Nelson, who is described on his tombstone as "The coadjutor of John Wesley and a pioneer of Methodism in Yorkshire."
