Description
Ridings Hall is a detached residence, now converted into flats, dating from the early 19th century, with elements from an earlier 18th century building. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and five bays, topped with a boldly castellated parapet and a group of four tall ashlar stacks. The second and fourth bays are slender and project forward, each containing a door with a fanlight and a deep lintel with double half round mouldings. Each bay on both floors has a two-light window. At the rear, there is a very large central thermal window and three double chamfered windows that lack mullions. The right side elevation displays a continuous hollow chamfered drip moulding, likely from earlier structures, which is interrupted by the 19th century openings. Notably, this house was the home of Ellen Nussey, a friend and correspondent of Charlotte Brontë.
