Description

The former offices of Huddersfield Corporation Waterworks Department, built in 1828, are located on Water Street. The building is constructed of ashlar with a hipped slate roof and stands two storeys tall. It features a moulded eaves cornice and a blocking course. The façade includes five ranges of sash windows, with the central ones projecting forward and topped by a pediment that contains an oval plaque inscribed in Gothic lettering, stating "Water Works. Established by Subscription. MDCCCXXVIII." There are three doors, two of which have six moulded panels. An extension to the north is made of hammer-dressed stone and also has a hipped stone slate roof. This extension is two storeys high, with stone brackets supporting the gutter, six ranges of windows (one of which is blocked), and an oculus with four keystones at the north end.
