Description

Lendal Hill House is a waterworks, later adapted for office use, constructed in the late 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. It incorporates a section of the rebuilt city wall. The front facade is of orange-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the rear ground floor is of magnesian limestone and the first floor is of red-brown brick in a random bond pattern. The roof is covered with pantiles and includes two gabled dormers with squat 6-pane windows, one flat dormer with a 4-pane window, a rebuilt brick stack, brick gable coping, and brick kneelers.

The building is two storeys and has attics, with five irregular bays. A six-panel door sits centrally beneath a radial fanlight. A segmental carriageway originally existed on the left end, but is now blocked by a 4-pane sash window. All windows are 4-pane sashes with painted stone sills and 1-course segmental brick arches. A three-course raised brick band emphasizes the second floor. The rear elevation is two storeys and an attic, with a scattered arrangement of windows. It includes two glazed and panelled doors, one sunk-panel door with a divided overlight, and an oriel window with 8- and 16-pane sashes at the left end. Other dormers are gabled and have 9-pane pivoting windows. The right return features a gable end; the ground floor has been altered, while the first floor has a 12-pane sash and the attic a squat 6-pane sash, both with segmental brick arches.

The interior, which was not inspected for this listing, is recorded as containing an 18th century staircase with a close string and balusters with square knops, along with original and mid-19th century fittings on the first floor.
