Description

The city wall, dating from 1250 to 1270, is a defensive structure approximately 45 metres long, extending from Lendal Hill House to The Lodge in Museum Gardens. It was partly rebuilt in 1874 and is constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar. The wall features an embattled design and rises between 2 metres and 4 metres high, stepping up the slope of the rampart. There are four buttresses with offsets on the inner side, and the wallwalk is approximately 1 metre wide.
