Description

A row of four cottages dating from the mid-18th century, situated on Holme Lane in Upper Holme, near Slaithwaite. The cottages are constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with some quoins, and have stone slate roofs. Moulded footstones are present at the south-western end. The south-east elevation displays variations in its detailing. Number 26 features 19th-century alterations, including a doorway with a stone surround and deep head, and a three-light stone mullioned window where the mullions are missing. The first floor has a similar three-light mullioned window with an extended sill, also lacking mullions. Number 27 has a doorway with a stone surround and deep head, and a double-chamfered three-light stone mullioned window. Number 28 features a doorway with a stone surround and deep head, a double-chamfered four-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, and a chamfered six-light stone mullioned window on the first floor with two square mullions. Number 29 has a doorway with stone surrounds and two modern windows. The north-west elevation of number 26 has a window with a stone surround on the first floor. A two-storey extension with a modern upper storey, rendered walls, and a blue slate roof is attached to number 29. A modern porch and extension are present at number 26.
