Description
Nos 23, 25, 27, and 27A on Slades Road are a mid-19th century terrace of weavers' houses. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables. The buildings have stone brackets supporting the gutter and a string course below. There are three chimneys, and the terrace stands three storeys tall.
On the south elevation, the ground floor includes one door with a stone surround and a four-light stone mullioned window, along with a modern porch and various windows and blocked openings. The first floor has a nine-light stone mullioned window (with three lights blocked), a seven-light stone mullioned window (with one light blocked), a four-light stone mullioned window, and a six-light stone mullioned window with glazing bars. The second floor features two four-light stone mullioned windows (one with a mullion removed), a fourteen-light stone mullioned window (with two lights blocked), and a nine-light stone mullioned window (with six lights blocked). There is a continuous sill band for the first and second floor windows.
On the east elevation, the first floor has a loading door with a stone surround, while the second floor contains a blocked two-light stone mullioned window. The north elevation, which includes Nos 23 and 25, has two doors with stone surrounds and one window with a stone surround on the ground floor. The first floor features a three-light stone mullioned window and a later window with a stone sill and head. The second floor has a four-light stone mullioned window and a three-light stone mullioned window, which likely was originally an eight-light stone mullioned window with one light now blocked.
