Description
Two late 18th-century houses stand on Holme Lane in Upper Holme, Slaithwaite. They are built of thinly coursed hammer-dressed stone, with some sections rendered, and have quoins. The roofs are pitched stone slate, with a section covered in bitumen, and have coped gables. Moulded footstones mark the base of the walls. An ashlar stack with a rounded cap is present, along with two later stacks.
The south elevation of No. 23 features recessed ground-floor windows with three lights, and a recessed first-floor window with eight lights and a central king mullion. No. 22 has recessed ground-floor windows with three lights (the mullions having been removed), and two recessed first-floor windows with three lights. The north elevation shows two entrances, one of which may have been altered, a four-light mullioned window, and a three-light stone mullioned window from which the mullions have been removed. Above, a four-light mullioned window and an eight-light mullioned window are present. The east elevation has an entrance with a stone surround, a later single-light window on the first floor, and a two-light stone mullioned window in the attic. A two-light stone mullioned window is visible on the west elevation.
