Description
Slaithwaite Viaduct is a railway viaduct built in two halves around 1845 and 1886, with the date "WS 1886" inscribed on the arch keystone. The structure is made of large coursed, slightly rock-faced stone, featuring both rusticated and ashlar dressings. An ashlar string course runs along the springing of the arches. The viaduct has 15 semicircular arches, each supporting two tracks, along with a smaller arch at the west end. The southern half contains stone vaults, while the northern half has brick vaults. The piers are slightly battered, with three piers at each end. A continuous parapet sits on the ashlar string course, topped with ashlar coping. The most westerly arch on the north side displays the date and inscription on its keystone: "WS 1886."
