Description

This is an early to mid-19th century terrace, located on Upper Clough Road in Linthwaite. The buildings are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with pitched stone slate roofs; the roof of number 34 has recently been re-slated. Decorative stone brackets support the guttering. Gable stacks are present, with two central stacks featuring water tabling. The buildings are arranged over three storeys.

The east elevation shows variations in window detail. Number 38 has a stone-surrounded entrance and a three-light stone mullioned window with rounded heads to both the ground and first floors, retaining original frames. Number 36 has a stone-surrounded entrance and a five-light stone mullioned window with rounded heads to the ground floor and two three-light windows with rounded heads to the first floor, all retaining original frames. Number 34 mirrors the details of number 36. Number 32 has a stone-surrounded entrance. The ground floor window is a former four-light stone mullioned window, with the mullions removed and replaced with modern casements. The first floor has two former three-light stone mullioned windows, similarly altered.

A two-storey extension in stone is present on the west elevation, attached to number 34. The north gable has a two-light stone mullioned window to the first floor. The south gable features a former two-light stone mullioned window, with one light blocked. Number 32 is included in the listing for group value.
