Description

Hoyle House, dating from the early to mid-19th century, comprises two cottages and under-dwellings built by Herbert Mallinson, a mill owner. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with large plinth stones visible on the east elevation, indicating the presence of vaulted cellars. The roof is pitched and covered in stone slate, with stone brackets supporting the gutter.

The west elevation features a ground floor former doorway, now partially blocked to form a window, with stone surrounds. Above are a 4-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, and two 6-light stone mullioned windows on the second floor. The east elevation displays entrances to each dwelling, framed with stone surrounds and tie stones that are continuous with the sill band of the windows. Two 6-light stone mullioned windows with double lintels are located on the second floor. The south gable has a 2-light stone mullioned window at its apex and a more recent single-light window, alongside a doorway with stone surrounds, on the ground floor.
