Description

Hopton Hall is a hall built in the 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th century. The building features timber-framed gables and hammer-dressed stone, topped with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has an H-plan layout, although the left wing does not project at the rear. The central section is double-piled with central stacks and is symmetrical, forming part of the 19th-century rebuild.

The façade includes two bays of three-light windows, with entrances on both the left and right sides. The left wing is timber-framed, showcasing a projecting gable with vertical studding and diagonal strutting. It features a projecting first-floor three-light bay window and a three-light ground-floor window, both containing some early glazing. A later stone plinth obscures the footings of the posts. The right gable mirrors the left, but the ground floor is finished in 19th-century stone, adorned with an ornamental bargeboard and a pendant finial at the apex.

The rear of the left wing has a timber-framed gable, with the first floor partially infilled with brick, while the rest of the rear elevation is from the 19th century. The left elevation has 19th-century windows with two and three lights, while the right elevation also features 19th-century details, including a central gabled porch and gables on either side, with mullioned and transomed bays on the ground floor and similar flush windows on the first floor.

Inside, there is some oak panelling in the entrance, but the rest of the interior is said to be modernised and was not accessible during the survey.
