Description
The flood lock at Newgate Bridge, built around 1776, is part of the Calder and Hebble Navigation and was engineered by John Smeaton. It features stone sides and copings, although there have been some recent alterations. On the north side, there is a setted towpath. The lock is large and creates a small basin, with two pairs of wooden gates. Notably, the south side of the basin lacks a wall. The bridge that spans over the first lock has a recent construction and is not included in this listing.
