Description
The Main Barn to Hall Farm is a large barn located in Upper Hopton, likely built in the 16th century with 19th century stone cladding made of hammer-dressed stone. It features a stone slate roof and has an aisled design on both sides. The barn has a near-central square-headed cart entry with a raised roof, and there are outshuts to both the left and right. At the rear, there is an opposed square entry with a gabled roof and an outshut to the left. Additionally, there are 19th century domestic additions, including a pitched roof extension to the right and another extension to the left gable.
Inside, the barn has a 5-bay layout supported by four trusses on posts, with one truss in each gable wall. The trusses are open and feature queen-struts and collars, while all rafters are collared. The posts rest on stone footings and have lifting holes, and they are braced to tie-beams and arcade plates. There are aisle-ties and studding on the side wall of the rear cart entry.
