Description
Lip Hill Farmhouse and an adjoining dwelling date back to the 17th century, with one part dated 1690 and some 19th-century rebuilding. The buildings are set at right angles to each other, each with a separate roof. They are constructed of coursed rubble and hammer-dressed stone, with quoins, and some parts are rendered. The roofs are covered in stone slate, with chamfered gable copings on simple kneelers.
The northern dwelling has a north-east gable featuring a four-light window where the outer mullions have been removed, with a hood mould above. There are two 19th-century single-light windows to the first floor. The side has a 19th-century entrance, and a double chamfered window above. The rear gable has a three-light stone mullioned window on each floor. The southern dwelling, which is the main farmhouse, was largely rebuilt in the mid-19th century with a gable frontage. A chamfered doorway on the north-east elevation is inscribed “E SH AH 1690”. The rear elevation includes a partially blocked Tudor arched doorway and a three-light window to the first floor. Later barns are not part of this listing.
