Description
This is a row of four houses, originally five, dating from around 1830, located on Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth. The houses are constructed of roughly-coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and have slate roofs, featuring four chimney stacks. The street front is two storeys high with a basement, and has a six-window arrangement. The ground floor has a centrally-placed window with sliding sash glazing bars, set within a raised ashlar surround. To the left is a similar window, and beyond that, a former doorway which has been replaced with a window. Set back to the left is a round-headed doorway with a rusticated surround, containing a two-panel door and fanlight. To the right, a pair of doorways each with raised ashlar surrounds, plain doors, and overlights, are followed by a further sliding sash window and then a further set-back round-headed doorway with a rusticated surround and a 20th-century glazed door with fanlight. Above, a moulded band runs across the first floor, and there are four sliding sash windows with glazing bars in raised ashlar surrounds, with single, narrow windows on either side; the window on the right is plain. The interior features an ashlar stone staircase with ladder-style stairs leading to the attics. First-floor rooms are partitioned with wooden plank partitions and glazed over-lights. Original fireplaces remain on the upper floors.
