Description

The Civic Hall, built in 1842, is constructed of ashlar and features a flat roof with a moulded eaves cornice and a blocking course. It has two storeys. The south-east elevation displays three central bays of tall windows with glazing bars on each floor; the upper floor windows have stone surrounds and are set in shallow recessed panels. A deep ashlar string course separates the floors. Each side of the central part has wings that project forward, each with a single light on both floors. There are two entrances, one located in each projecting wing. On the north-east elevation, the ground floor has five blind window openings, while the first floor features a tall, central, three-light window with moulded decoration. The boundary wall extends from the building and includes two massive, square ashlar corner posts with moulded caps, along with two similar gate piers topped with an iron overthrow.
