Description
46 and 48 Town Gate is a pair of houses dated 1727, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The buildings have rendered walls and a stone slate roof with a central chimney stack. They are two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two 4-light chamfered windows, both with some mullions removed; one of these has been altered to serve as a doorway, alongside a large central chamfered light. The first floor features one 3-light window and two 4-light windows from the 19th century. At the rear, there is a 6-light window with a king mullion, while other mullions are recessed, with one removed. The right gable showcases a fine doorway with a moulded surround and a cambered head, inscribed with "I(ohn) T(urner) A:no 1727," where the "ohn" and "urner" were likely added later, probably in the 19th century. Additionally, there is a 3-light chamfered window on the first floor.
