Description

This is an early 19th-century block of ten buildings on Meltham Road. The buildings are constructed of ashlar and have hipped slate roofs. They are two storeys high and feature stone brackets supporting the gutter. A continuous sill band runs along the first floor. The corner facing Swan Lane is rounded. The building has ten ranges of sash windows. Nos. 4 and 6 include shopfronts with doors flanked by pilasters and elaborately decorated entablatures. Steps lead to the doors at Nos. 4, 6, 8 and 10, and are protected by plain cast iron railings. Nos. 4, 8, and 10 also have front areas with railings; the railings at No. 4 incorporate some turned balusters. Above the door of No. 10, faint traces of the original signage, "William Moores Licensed Dealer in Tea, Tobacco etc," are still visible.
