Description
This is an 18th-century barn located adjacent to number 5 in Slaithwaite. It is constructed from coursed rubble with dry stone walling and features quoins. The barn has a pitched stone slate roof with copings on the south gable and moulded footstones.
On the southwest elevation, there is an outshut extension with a catslide roof and an entrance that has a stone surround. The large doorway has a segmental arched head, stone surrounds, and tie-stones. At the south end, there is a small doorway with a deep lintel and stone surround, which bears an inscription that reads: M I D, possibly not original or altered from 1743 at a later date. The northeast elevation features a large central doorway with a segmental arched head, which is partially blocked, and a small square vent above it.
Inside, the barn has three king post trusses with struts and braces, as well as purlins. There is a ridge tree at one end, and the joints are dowelled. The rafters and battens are more recent additions.
