Description
Headlands Hall is a large detached house, likely built around 1690, which incorporates some timber framing. It was constructed for Josiah and Elizabeth Farrier. The building features hammer-dressed stone and a stone slate roof with multiple gables, chamfered copings, and ornamental finials at the eaves and apexes. It has two storeys and a C-shaped plan, with a truncated rear wing on the left that has a hipped roof.
The entrance front is symmetrical, with gables on both the left and right sides, each featuring a blind two-light double chamfered window. The central door has a single light above it, and there are large two-light windows on both floors to the left and right, all dating from the mid to late 19th century. A reset lintel reads "F I E," and drip mouldings, though broken at the doorway and first-floor windows, still remain. The left elevation includes a projecting chimney breast, a cross window for the staircase, two two-light windows, and two altered three-light windows, all of which are double chamfered. The right elevation has a mix of two and three-light windows, one five-light double chamfered window with a hood mould that continues from the front and features a round stop with a carved face, as well as two 20th-century oriel windows.
Inside, the left parlour boasts oak panelling and 17th-century plasterwork, with a frieze depicting paired griffons and a ceiling decorated with lozenges and vines. The house also has large vaulted cellars.
