Description
The Mansion, located on Storthes Hall Road in Kirkburton, is a late 18th-century mansion house originally built for the Horsefall family. It features two additions on the left, likely from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has a hipped slate roof with a moulded eaves cornice and four ashlar stacks.
The mansion is two storeys tall with an attic and has a symmetrical facade with seven bays. The central three bays project slightly and are topped with a pediment. A set of four steps leads up to a central portico that features a garlanded frieze, a cornice, and a segmental pediment supported by Tuscan columns with backing pilasters. The doorway includes a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The ground floor is adorned with sash windows that have glazing bars, and those windows are topped with small moulded cornices. The attic, which serves as a half-storey, has smaller windows.
To the left of the main structure is a two-storey, three-bay addition that is set back, and projecting from this is a five-bay wing at a right angle.
At the rear, there is a central door with a semi-circular fanlight featuring radial glazing bars, flanked by single lights, all beneath a pedimented cornice. Above this door, on the first floor, is a Venetian window, and in the attic, there is a thermal window.
The interior has been modernised.
