Description

This is a row of six pairs of substantial stone houses, dating from the mid to later 19th century, situated along Park Road. Numbers 1 to 4 and 9 to 12 are two storeys high, while numbers 5 to 8 are three storeys high. The two-storey houses each have four windows, with the central two windows projecting forward and topped by urns above the eaves cornice of the hipped slate roof. Each of these houses features a two-storey bay window, and an arched doorway flanked by Doric pilasters. The first-floor windows have cornices. The rear elevations are plain, with an added stair at number 1 and a rear entrance at number 12. The three-storey houses have arched ground-floor openings and two-storey bay windows projecting forward at each end, topped with balustrades and pediments. A fire escape is attached to the flank of number 5. The houses contribute to the setting of People's Park. As a group, the buildings along Park Road are considered to have group value.
