Description

This is a row of six early 19th-century houses, numbered 11 to 17 Palmerston Street. The buildings are set back from number 9 and extend over three storeys and a cellar. They are constructed of brick, with a moulded eaves cornice and a slate roof. The windows are sash windows, four panes wide, set in brick reveals with rubbed brick voussoirs. Smaller windows are found on the top storey. Each house has one window bay facing north and a front door facing south. The front doors are six-panel designs, with the top two panels cut away and glazed, set within panelled reveals and reeded architraves ornamented with roundels at the corners. Above the doors is a plain frieze supported by flat, coved brackets, which in turn support a small, moulded, flat hood. Each door (except number 17) is approached by four stone steps with a cast iron guard rail on the left, terminating in a square standard with urn finials. The houses are set back from the road with paved paths leading to each front door. These houses contribute to the group value of listed buildings along Palmerston Street, encompassing numbers 70 to 84 (even) and 47 to 55 (odd).
