Description
A house, dating from the mid-17th century, was altered in the mid-18th century to create four cottages, with an addition to the house and an early 19th century barn. The house is built of large dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys. The original part of the house has a projecting wing to the west, with a catslide roof, and a main range. The west wing has a 7-light double-chamfered mullioned window, a band, and a 5-light window above to the first floor. A slightly set-back hall range has an altered window, probably originally of 3 lights, with a smaller window above to the first floor. To its right is a 4-light flat-faced mullioned window, with a matching window to the first floor. An addition to the left of the wing has a wide window to each floor. The barn features a semi-circular arched cart entry with a simple Venetian window above. The left-hand return wall has a wide coped gable with kneelers, sweeping down lower over the aisle of the barn. The rear elevation has four doorways leading to the cottages, and flat-faced mullioned windows to the first floor, with 3-light and 6-light arrangements. Four stacks rise from the ridge. The interior of the barn retains 17th century character, with large trusses lacking king posts, but incorporating angle struts braced to posts on stylobats.
