Description
The cross base and shaft, located approximately 20 metres south of the west end of the Church of St Mary, date from 1624 and are attributed to Heginbottom. Made of stone, the cross features a chamfered rectangular base with a square socket that holds the base of the shaft. The shaft itself has stop-chamfered angles and a hollow in the centre of the top. This churchyard cross was removed during the Civil War, later found in the garden at Ellen Royd, and was returned in the early 20th century. This information is documented in J A Heginbottom's "The Parish Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin, Luddenden with Luddenden Foot, A Brief History and Guide" published in 1984.
