Description
Nos 2 and 4 Old Lane are two dwellings that were originally three cottages and one underdwelling, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared stone and feature a stone slate roof. They are two storeys tall, with a basement underdwelling located beneath No 2 on the right. The façade has three bays, with openings that have plain stone surrounds and windows that originally had flat-faced mullions.
The underdwelling has a door to the left of a 4-light window, which has shutter stanchions. On the ground floor, each cottage has a door to the left of a 4-light window, which has been altered to a 2-light window; the left-hand doorway has been converted into a window. There are steps leading up to the right-hand doorway, which has a cast-iron handrail with wavy balusters. On the first floor, each cottage features a 4-light window, now reduced to 2-light. The eaves have a table, and there are chimney stacks between the left-hand cottages and at the right end. At the rear, there are three 2-light windows on the first floor.
