Description
55 and 57 Elland Lane is a house dated 1700, featuring stone walls that are rendered and a stone slate roof with coped gables, kneelers, and finials. The building has two storeys and a linear plan consisting of three cells with an outshut at the rear. The south front is rendered, and the windows are largely intact. All windows have recessed, splayed mullions with square reveals. The central hall window has six lights and is flanked by two five-light windows, with similar arrangements on the first floor. A square section hoodmould runs over the ground floor windows and rises to include the lintel of the main doorway. The doorway features chamfered jambs and a four-centred head, with the lintel displaying a decorative panel that includes the initials TB and the date 1700 within an oval. The door leads into the housebody, which is located opposite the fireplace that has a four-centred head and a chamfered surround. The parlour is situated at the west end, accessed through the housebody. The eastern room contains a fireplace on the gable wall within an extruded stack. At the rear, there is an outshut that has been converted into garages, and the rear appears to have been rebuilt in the mid-20th century.
