Description
This is a field barn known as Field Barn for Lower Hanging Shaw, located at Higher Hanging Shaw and dating from the early 18th century. The barn is constructed from rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The south front features quoins and a segmental arched cart entry, which has composite jambs and a stop-chamfered surround. To the right end, there is a 19th-century inserted doorway with monolithic jambs. The right-hand gable has moulded kneelers. At the rear, there is a square-headed cart entry formed by a large monolithic lintel with tie-stones. The original mistal doorway on the left end has composite jambs and a heavy lintel made from a large quoin. This barn represents an early example of its type in the region.
