Description

The chest tomb, located approximately 7 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary, dates from the mid-17th century and was created for Thomas Murgatroyd of Murgatroyd and East Riddlesden Hall, who died in 1653. It is made of coursed squared stone. The base features leaf carvings at the upper corners and a central bulbous decorative element on the north side. The top slab is lugged and has a moulding that forms a cornice at the base. There are two surviving brass panels inset into the top slab, one of which displays a coat of arms.
