Description

No 26 is a house located on Town Gate in Sowerby Bridge, likely built in the late 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of a single cell. The left-hand corner on the ground floor is rounded, while the right-hand corner has been rebuilt. There is a 20th-century door on the right, set in a plain stone surround with a slab cornice. To the left of the door is a 6-light chamfered mullion window, although the original mullions have been removed and replaced with flat-faced mullions. On the first floor, there is an 8-light chamfered mullion window, with the intermediate mullions also removed. The left gable features a shaped kneeler, coping, and a corniced stack. A pent outshut has been added on the right side. At the rear, there are chamfered mullion windows: a 2-light window on the ground floor (with the mullion removed) and a 6-light window above (with two mullions removed). On the left return, there is a 4-light window that has been reduced to a 2-light window on the left, and a 2-light window in the gable.
