Description
Nos 2 to 8 Clare Road, which includes No 4 Ward's End and No 2 St John's Lane, is a row of six stone houses built in the early to mid-19th century. The buildings are three storeys high and mostly feature two windows each. They have an eaves cornice beneath a hipped slated roof. The entrances are framed by Greek Doric half columns and are set under broad, segmental arches, with the middle entrance leading to an arched passage. The end houses have one window on the front and a longer return with an entrance. No 2 St John's Lane has a canted corner, and No 4 Ward's End now has a shop on the ground floor. Together, these buildings form a cohesive group.
