Description

The building is a barn and attached cowhouse located approximately 9 metres east of Norland Hall. The barn is dated '1780 WH' but is likely from the late 17th century, while the cowhouse is probably from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with stone slate roofs. The barn features three bays, with the lower three-bay cowhouse set back on the right.

The barn has quoins and a central quoined segmental-arched cart entry, with one of the right-hand quoins dated on the inside. There are chamfered rectangular vents on either side of the entry and a quoined mistal doorway to the left end, which has a triangular cut-out in the lintel. There is a pent-roofed addition on the left that is not of special interest. The cowhouse has a chamfered quoined doorway with a renewed lintel on the left, chamfered rectangular vents, and one plain vent.

At the rear, the barn features a central chamfered quoined doorway flanked by chamfered rectangular vents and an inserted narrow mistal doorway on the right. The left return has a ground-floor opening, rectangular vents above, and an arched vent in the gable, all chamfered, along with other square vents.

Inside the barn, there are stalls for six cows at the left end, with a floor above and a recess in the left wall, likely for a lamp. There is a blocked pitching door in the right gable, and the barn has 19th-century fishbone king-post roof trusses with reused purlins and rafters.
