Description
Nos. 1 to 8 Silver Street is a row of eight single-cell cottages built around 1820. The cottages are constructed from watershot masonry and feature a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high, with each cottage having a three-light flat faced mullioned window that includes a projecting sill tied into the jamb of the doorway. Above, there is a four-light window on the first floor. Attached to No. 1 is No. 15 Smithwell Lane. Notably, No. 7 has an inscribed copper tablet that reads, "THE HOME AND WORKSHOP OF THE LAST HANDLOOM WEAVER IN HEPTONSTALL WHO RETIRED IN 1882." This row is a fine example of working-class housing in the area and retains its original windows. There are seven stacks along the ridge of the roof.
