Description

This is a single-aisled barn located 10 meters to the northwest of Hill House Farmhouse, dated "1718". The barn features a roof that was raised and altered in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from thin dressed rubble dry stone walls and has a stone slate roof. The quoins are from the original build.

The barn has a segmental arched cart entry with an inner porch. Within the re-entrant angle, there is a basket arched doorway with tie-stone jambs, and the lintel bears the date set within a decorative tressure. At the lower end, there is a mistal doorway with a quoined lintel and a chamfered surround. The right-hand return wall displays an earlier roof line and features arched ventilators with sunken spandrels.

Inside, the barn has four bays covered by an unusual softwood roof that combines hybrid queen-post and fish-bone king-post trusses.
