Description
A barn dated 1884 was converted into two dwellings. The construction consists of a base of coursed rubble with dressed stone and raised ashlar dressings. It is two and a half storeys high, with an L-shaped layout. The east-facing elevation features a central, semi-circular arched cart entry, now blocked to form two doorways for the dwellings. Above the cart entry is a six-light mullioned and transomed window, with circular windows featuring four keystones to either side. A Tudor arched doorway is located to the right, and a single-storey range projects forward to the left, incorporating two carriage entries with monolithic lintels resting on cyma moulded corbels, a Tudor arched doorway, and a two-light window. The left-hand return wall displays four single-light windows to the single-storey range. The barn gable has three bays of inserted flat-faced mullioned windows on both floors, designed to be in keeping with the original character. At the apex is a keyed oeil de boeuf (round window) flanked by vent slits and a tablet within a moulded trefoil, inscribed "T R". The gable end skews, following the curve of the road, and incorporates the date "1884”. A raised eaves band is present, along with moulded gutter brackets. The gables are coped with kneelers. The original stack to the single-storey extension is topped with modillion capping; modern stacks are also present on the barn. The building is listed for group value only.
