Description

Lydgate Viaduct is a railway viaduct built in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of pitched faced stone with dressed stone voussirs. The structure features 13 semi-circular arches supported by tall slender piers, with the broadest piers located on either side of Picker Street. A band runs over the arches, topped by a parapet with cappings. Splayed buttresses project forward, and there is a deep curve to the embankment. The viaduct is located near Robinwood Mill, creating an impressive group with that structure.
