Description

This terrace, originally known as Grange Terrace and dated 1885, is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It comprises five symmetrical bays flanked by gabled wings with differing detailing. A drip course runs along the facade. All the bays have double-chamfered mullioned windows with transoms to the ground floor, each containing eight lights of a cruciform design. The left-hand wing has a projecting ground floor window with a canted course running up to the sill of the first-floor window, which has ten lights and a hoodmould with decorative label stops. An arch-headed recess beneath the apex of the gable contains the date plaque. The gables have copings, kneelers, and finials. The right-hand wing has a similar gable treatment and a lean-to on a return wall, enclosing a porch with a doorway featuring composite jambs, moulded imposts, and a semi-circular arched head with a rebated surround. Above the doorway is an arch-headed window of two lights. The lean-to has coping with a kneeler and finial. The wing also has a ten-light window to the ground floor and a stepped window of two-over-four lights with a hoodmould and decorated label stops. A blocked columbarium is situated within the gable. The central range features doorways with stop-chamfered jambs, each sheltered by a wooden canopy with an ogee head carried on curved braced consoles and a canted slate hood. Above the canopy is a small two-light window, and a gabled attic dormer has coping, kneelers and a finial to the apex, beneath which is a three-light window. Tall chimney stacks with four coupled flues rise from each ridge. The rear elevation is treated similarly to the front, with three-light windows on each floor.
