Description

Inchfield is a house built in 1848. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings, and has a slate roof. The building is in a Vernacular Revival style. The east front has three bays, with a central gabled porch featuring elaborate moulded jambs and a depressed arch with foliated spandrels. Above the door is a carved heraldic bust with the letters WNN in relief, representing William Nelson Newall. The porch has a coped gable with a kneeler on the left and a carved monster with foliage and the date on the right. Tall gables with deeply chamfered mullioned windows of two and three lights flank the porch; the first floor features an oriel window. Similar windows are found on the left hand return wall and the rear of the building, all retaining their original margin glazing. The right hand return wall has a lateral stack.
